How to Get Your Website

95% of people who talk to us hire us to design their custom website.  That is a number we are proud of!  It means we are doing something right.  We want to build your website.  Just follow these easy steps to get started.

First you will need to have a webhost.  A webhost will give you space on a server.  The server is where your site physically resides.  There are many good hosting companies; we will recommend some that we like most.  For a basic site, blog, or forum setup, you can expect costs between 3–5 dollars per month.  Some “business plans” will include extra perks, like vouchers for Google AdWords and Yahoo Ad placement.  These will usually run about 10 dollars per month.  Additionally, you must have a “domain name” which basically means you must have an address on the web.  Most hosting plans will provide one free domain with your hosting plan.  We will discuss which plans fit your needs.

Next you need an idea of what services your site needs to offer.  For example, will the information remain basically the same?  We call this a “static website”.  Maybe the information needs to update automatically based on new memberships, sales of products, or new user submissions.  These sites require a database.  These are called “dynamic websites”.

Now you should have an idea of how you want your website to look.  Do you want a formal, business atmosphere or a friendly, whimsical atmosphere?  It is good to look around at other sites to get an idea of what you like.
